Bioenergy & Sustainability

This project is a collective effort with contributions from 137 researchers of 82 institutions in 24 countries

One of the project’s outcome is a synthesis of knowledge volume. This is an Ebook with over 700 pages derived from an assessment that included a meeting held at UNESCO, Paris, in December 2013. Experts discussed bioenergy sustainability across its whole lifeline including land use, feedstocks, conversion technologies and the social, environmental and economic impacts of bioenergy expansion in the world.

Background chapters were commissioned to provide context, raise issues, and report on status and technological developments for bioenergy expansion. The cross-cutting chapters represent a selection of topics authors considered the most relevant to enlighten decision-making based on current scientific knowledge on bioenergy. They consider how bioenergy expansion and its impacts perform in the energy security, food security, environmental and climate security, sustainable development and innovation nexus. And most importantly authors highlighted important gaps of knowledge and suggested the science needed to fill them.
